Future Aspiration

This morning we had some speakers, Our future inspiration. There were some truly moving stories. The first speaker was introduced (Mr Anthony Samuels). He was on the New Zealand famous program 'What Now'. He started as an actor on this program and he would be on 8am to 11am. He was a pretty funny actor. He told us 1 phrase and 1 key. The phrase was 'TO MIHARO HOKI' that means you or someone is amazing. He also said: 'Don't let the past determine your future'. This was the key.

The most moving story was from a man named Pola. He told us that he was the best at swimming when he was a child. But he really wasn’t because he told us that when he got tired he would just stand up in the water and pretend that he was swimming. He said he was tall when he was in intermediate. That's why he could do that. He told us has anyone of their class laughed at you before some of us said yes. This part was moving he said he went to a competition and a different school and they had a pool.

He was waiting for them to clap these woods together so he can start. Then it clapped  he was swimming and swimming then when he came half-way everybody started to get tired he was too. So he tried to pretend he was swimming he tried to touch the ground but as he noticed it was to deep. So he started doing this style could drowning. So the lifeguard jumped in and pulled him out he started to push his chest and everyone was quiet. He spat out a ton of water and went back to his team everyone was laughing at him it was like a whole school that was sad. But that didn’t stop him from swimming when he was older.

Other speakers were Andrew Patterson (Radio DJ), Amelia and a young boy called Iavana.

Athletics 2014

“It’s was a great day for athletics”

3rd of nov was the day we And we had athletics. Helping to set it up was a challenge. There was shot put, high jump, Discus, 75 and 100 meter sprints, javelin, sack race, tug of war, softball throw and last of all hurdles.

The first sport was discus Miss’s Nua said we had to line up in to 2 lines noncompetitive and the competitive line. noncompetitive was my line i am not that sporty. None of us hardly tried till Miss Tito said she would give us an ice cream.

Javelin was the hardest trying to get it in the ground. I didn't even get a spot i tried my hardest. But still there are other sports i could try in. The main one i was focusing on was high jump coming in a place in that would be spectacular.

TO BE CONTINUED....

Year 8 Camp

Packed my bags and ready to go!

Got to the school and got put in our teams. Waiting for the prey and then we are on our way. We loaded our bags on the bus and we took of nothing to do on the bus but eat lollies even Mrs Nua had some but she said if you litter you have to pick up all the rubbish.

arriving at a beach was alright until we were to we would have to walk the rest of the way we had to walk threw a rive put our shoes on keep on walking. Muddy as patches my shoes felt heavy as but the view was spectacular. We were facing a beach and the water looked amazing i felt like swimming in it. but there were these massive rocks that almost looked like giant bark. it was like a maze but as soon as you know it we found our way out we were sitting on grass and had our morning tea ‘’FINALLY’’ i said. We all had a drink of water and the walked down to the beach we all had a play a rest and my mate Frankie was doing forward flips on the sand. So we hoped back on the bus and went to the camp site.

as soon as we arrived the whole place looked lonely the sand volley ball it looked like hardly anyone stepped on it. There was only one or two people one of there names were Michael. He showed us around he showed us the boys cabins the confidence course, water slide and flying fox when he showed us the water slide he said there was a lot of incidents. when I saw the flying fox i said “damn thats high”. It looked terrifying from the bottom.

day bye day sort of got boring but! I still enjoyed it the last day was the best going to Waiwera. Straight away almost everyone charged for the water slides, there were only too there was three but the other wan was closed because it was too dangerous. Each slide was given a name one was called the bullet(because you go super fast) one was called the twists(because they twist) The closed one was called black hole(thats cause you can't see).

I went on the slides like four times the I decided to relax in the movie pool.I did not like the movie, It was planes  its like a childish movie so i just sat down in the pool, Its 43˚c.But the lava pool was the hottest it is 48˚c you have to be very quiet in that pool. When we left everybody at the camp did not want to go back to school.

Arriving back to school everybody was lazy and floppy. We unpacked did our prey and ready to go, Just In time for Halloween.

Why is it important to come to school?

Why is it important to come to school?

Attending school is very important. One of the reasons is so you could learn. If you can't learn then you won't get anywhere in the future. How are you going to get a job? School is important for everyone if you don';t go school means you're disadvantaged in the future.

Knowledge is one of the things a kid is needed schools can do that if you don't know how to write we have books so you can learn if you don't know how to read the teachers can teach you how to read. If you don't know any math we know some site online some can even show you how to draw.

You would be able to have a very good future if you even need help there are always teachers but if the teachers a busy you could ask a mate or a friend.

Tattoo Design

Skeleton: I drawed the skeleton because i really like the style.

Lion: The reason I drawed this because is that the lion represents fare.

Rules Are Important

What would it be like without rules.

Rules are the most important things that should be remembered, so it can keep you alive so you don't do the wrong thing. At school there are rules like don't touch the teachers stuff unless you have permission or maybe not throwing things around the class. Especially no fights if there were a fight there would be a lot of consequences.

If there were no rules there would be a lot of destruction like swearing, fights, thefts, there would be tons of violence people may even get killed. All of these rules would have been ignored.

Respect helps if you tell someone to do something like turn of a computer thats respect. Not talking when the teacher is thats respect. Helping one another is respectful doing favours is respectful lots of thing is respectful.

Term 4

Every term an immersion assembly is held just at the start. We have been doing this since I think this school was made. We also did this to show what our topic is. Our topic is ART ATTACK. When we went to assembly I saw art playing on the projector. It was amazing people were doing art on the computer it looks realistic.

The items started to explain what our topic was going to be about. It was team 1’s turn to explain what they are doing. I can't remember most of it but they did say they would be going down a river, I think having a picnic thats all that I could remember.

I could’nt remember any of them except team 5 theres was the best they started to paint upside down no one knew what was. What but I started to see someones face upside down. There were three paintings as soon as the flipped it they had painted Mr Jacobson,Mrs Jarman and Mr Burt.

That was the best immersion assembly if I could remember the rest I would tell you.

2014 Cross Country

Do you know what is on the 11th of september? The 2014 cross country!

“Year 8 boys” said Mr Jacobson. That was our queue. Going to the start line just waiting for Mr Burt to slam his blocks together.

As soon as he slammed the blocks I decided to jog. Because I think if you sprint at the start you will waste all your energy. When I got to a muddy patch I ran through but as I ran mud was flicking in my face that was a bad distraction.

My mate (Logan) and I thought that if we stayed together we would make to the end. As I was running I was huffing and puffing and I said to my mate “I can’t do this” but he said I can do this. As I got to my second lap I felt a burst of energy to run the whole way

Eventually my mate and I came 7th equal.

We stopped and we were told that we could go and get a drink of water. So there I went and I got a cup of water and poured it on my face.

I never ever thought I will come in a place like that, hope to try next year at college!

Argeuments Againest fitness

I believe kids should exercise every day because in
our country we don't want to raise a population of overweight people. Also exercise can help children to play a lot of sports and maybe make it into some sports teams.

Children need to be fit for anything that gets in their way. We are also trying to stop people sitting on the couch all day. Our school are focusing on becoming good athletes.

Fitness is my main priority. That is why I agree that our kids have to be smart, fit and healthy. That does  also include adults. If that doesn't happen, our country could be filled with overweight kids and adults. I also think that fitter kids are smarter kids.

Our school does running every day. The Year 8’s & 7’s  run to the Pt England reserve and back twice. We are training for our school country. So if we're healthy and if we are fit, our nation will be stronger and healthier.

Taking care of my body

Why do we have a body? To move and do things! That is why it is so important you must look after your body. The main thing is trying not to injure your body that is why you must take good care. If you're riding a skateboard you will need protection for your body like knee pads elbow pads and a helmet. Try to avoid dangerous stuff, because it may kill you or injure you.

If you take drugs or alcohol thats the main problem if smoke, inhale and inject these stuff can affect your brain and it changes what your brain does and other stuff it can slow down your transmitters(the messages that the brain sends to the rest of the body to move and other things). It can slow the down so it would take a long time and your body can be damaged.

alcohol is something that can kill if you drink at less 5 bottles that may give you some loss of memory. Maybe 8 that will probably make you have anger issues or get into fights. 10 you will probably become clumsy starteld if you were to drink a whole bottle of vodka thats dangerous you will become unconscious what are the chances of you surviving your death.

One teenager died he drank one whole bottle of vodka and his mates decided to give him more because of the way he was acting, they thought he was funny. Then his mates found him unconscious they thought he was ok but the next morning his mates went to go check on him and he was dead.He was a good athlete he went to kings college his name was james only if it wasn't for that one night.

There are lots of things that can kill you injure or do whatever to thats why it is good that your body is protected.

Drugs

For the past few weeks we have been going to the life education bus what we learned about was drugs. We had to be mature if you want to learn. The first drug we learned about was cannabis known as marijuana (weed, tinny, pot) and it was about people who were addicted to it and people who lost their reputation now they are on track.

There were a few more drugs like cocaine (crack) meth and lots more including pills that can kill you. There is stuff that you can inhale like nos (nitrous gas) most drugs affect the brain. It slows down your neurotransmitters in the brain. But some can speed it up faster and faster until the next day you're as lazy as a slug. That can affect you because then you might be addicted so then you have to keep taking that drug. It would probably be the only way to boost your neurotransmitters.

Alcohol can kill only if you drink too much. A tragedy happened when a boy called James died by drinking one whole bottle of vodka. His mates thought that he was sleeping but the next morning he was found unconscious and dead. He was a good athlete and competed in many sports, if it wasn't for that one night.

Commonwealth Country

Australia Is located in oceania near the beautiful New Zealand and some pacific island. They have a well over population of 23,564,607! that is crazy. There capital city is Canterbury, but the place that people would go for their holidays (vacation) would be gold cost it has some of the best features. Like a theme park for the kids including splash planet and many more.

Thier favourite sport (their most played sport) is Aussie Rules . There is 2,659 clubs that play, it is played outdoor and the only have one equipment a football. Immersion Assembly

“It is a good start to the term” I said to myself. The theme for this term is Game On. It is about sport and the Commonwealth games. As soon as I got to school our class went to the hall and then we started with our Immersion Assembly.

Team one movie was a weird one. I didn't really understand that one because I wasn’t even listening. Team two on the other hand I think was about the countries and our old teacher is back from america so thats good.

Team three was funny because Mr Goodwin was dressed up as a reggae person he was pretty funny. They showed a video it was about competing in things like sport and other things. The one I think I like the most would be team five I didn't know what happened in team four.

Team five is when the teachers went on a holiday to different countries. My favourite was Miss Lagitupu she went to Glenn Innes. Miss Nua went to spain. I heard it looks fantastic. Ms clark went to New York. Miss Paget went to Atlanta in America.

Mrs Langitupu gave us a task for our sound animation and I finished it of.

Echolocation

Echolocation

What is echolocation?
Echolocation is used by some animals and maybe a human and submarines. This is like powers. If you make a sound in a classroom it will rebound off the barriers in front of you and around you, and it will come back. It’s like if you blow at your hand the wind comes back. A boy called Ben Underwood used echolocation. He was blind and lost his eyes at the age of 3. Echolocation helped him see.

Who or what can use it?
Submarines can use it. This is a little different to how animals use it. When they're in the water, the submarines send out a signal. If it comes back it gets detected on their monitor and then will will know somethings out there. That’s just the same as whales and dolphins. They make a sound so they can see if anything is out there too. Bats are spectacular as they can hear really well. Their hearing is better than ours.

Aggressive Dogs

Dogs Aggressive and dangerous there are dogs that come from all sorts of country the most aggressive I wouldn't want are Red nose Pitbulls these dogs will tear you apart they could actually kill you if they kill you that's the end of you if a pitbull was wandering the street and bites you call animal patrol and they will put them down because they are to aggressive. These dogs were known for the highest killing rates.
images.jpg
German shepherd these dogs are well trained dogs but some aren't .These dogs are aggressive they can kill because these dogs come in second with the highest killing rates. These dogs are in the army and the force the have been with police and looked after because they are there buddies Make sure these dogs are trained when they are puppies.
images (1).jpg

Rottweilers are dangerous dogs. But some of them are pa light they can listen but it might injure you they are very vicious guard dogs coming in third place in killing rates these dogs are big and fierce puppies are very cute but as they get older they will start injuring people they need to have a good caregiver.

Empathy and Sympathy

Empathy and Sympathy

Empathy and Sympathy are types of emotions. Empathy means caring for people and putting your self in other people’s shoes. Sympathy is just a different type of empathy,Its a little bit of the same. That’s what sympathy is about. You can feel empathy and sympathy at the same time.

Everybody shows empathy sometimes. This is about caring and understanding what other people are feeling. Some people show sympathy, here's an example: If you lost something special to you or someone and that person said that they don't care cause maybe it was your fault.

Tech at Tamaki

Tech at tamaki, the only time you can experience this Yr 7 & 8 its a fun time and you learn a lot of stuff like cooking, crafting & drawing. The group I am in is hard materials this is when the crafting comes. This term we are learning to make glass pane but it has a design in the middle it can be anything but there are a few cuts that you can't do these cuts have to be straight you get a piece of small wood. A glass cutter (its very dangerous).

Mr Grundy (our teacher for tech) gave us a task to make eight designs and when you’ve done that you get to pick your final design then the hard bit comes cutting the glass you will need to know how to control it if you can’t the you cut will go all over the place. If you can cut the glass and make sure its a precision cut then you cut the colored glass.

The colored glass is the most important bit these glasses will be the color for your design. If you can cut all the colored glass that you need and all the pieces you need are cut then you are almost finish. You will need to grind it and then when your done put a sticky material around it. Then you will put all your pieces together and put a special material around it to keep it together then you put a hole in it near the top and then you are done.

How to create an animation on hyperstudio

How to create an animation, if its your first time using it you will eventually get use to it so you have to learn the basics how to get your tools they will just pop up. The click on the paint brush this helps you to draw so you can change the size and the colour. You fill in the blank spots just by clicking on the paint bucket its very easy.

So the first step is to draw the object you want to use then when you're done click on the lasso icon that will give you the privilege to move you drawing, create it into a object the you can move or change the size. So the you copy it by pushing control c on your keypad. The control v to paste it.

Then you create an backround and the you copy the card and you can move the object anywhere. Just make it look like a high quality so it don't look ugly the after your finish doing that you can make it an movie. An you can even post it on your blog or vimeo.

Why Is Swimming Important

Why is swimming important

Why is swimming important? So you can keep safe around waters or sea and that go’s for the little ones as well everybody needs to learn how to swim but some people can't because of medical reason. If you're on a boat you will need to wear a life jacket and if you fall out you will need to know how to swim  so you can get back to shore or get help.

My class have been going swimming five days a week. we go there to practice our swimming. We were split into two groups boys and girls we would practice in different pools but if the groups are small then we all form one group some time’s we use boards and when we are finish the tricky part comes we have to swim without a board that's what the whole point of swimming

Explanation Of A Grand Piano

Today I am learning how to explain the emotions that sound can bring from a piano. A piano is an instrument it plays a different kind of sound. Do you know that a piano is similar to a guitar? Do you know why? Well a guitar has strings and a piano has strings. A grand piano has 88 keys, 52 white ones and 36 black ones.

The piano has about 46 parts some are the strings. The outside of this piano is massive, it is 170 cm in length. Most of the parts are to make the sound but did you know there is a part that can make the sound echo or make it play longer. When you normally play it it would cut out faster.

How is this sound produced? When you push down on the keys it would trigger the strings on the inside. So these parts would flick at the string which would create the piano sound or the note. Did you know that you can tune it but it would take you along time because its not the same as a guitar.

How to play piano it maybe a little hard but you might get used to it, first you need to learn the basics.

My Science Experimant

Science experiment:

Question: What will happen to the sound if I change the shape of a piece of paper? (e.g. from a flat shape to a funnel shape)

Links to research about Sound:

Hypothesis: (What do you think will happen?) e.g. I think that Each position would change. And I think that you can still hear but not clearly.

Materials needed: Tissue’s, Paper and tape to hold the structure.

Experiment (procedure):

e.g. Step 1 - First hold a flat piece of paper against your ear. Block your other ear with your hand. Get your partner to speak to you. What is the sound like? Can you hear clearly?

Step 2 - Next, roll the piece of paper into a funnel shape. Put the funnel against your ear. Face the funnel towards your partner and listen to them speak. What does it sound like? Can you hear clearly?

Step 3 - Next, face the funnel to the side while your partner speaks

Step 4 - When your partner Speaks, write down what it sounds like.

Step 5 - Switch position’s and see the difference.

Data (What happened?)

Shape/object/materials
Results:
1
flat piece of paper
Nearly the same  as normal hearing
2
funnel facing to the front
Sounds loud and there's
3
funnel facing to the side
Nearly Clear but theres sound in the background.
4
cotton ball blocking funnel
Still can hear but it you can’t hear what they're saying.
5
rolled up piece of paper (facing to the front)
Very clear not muffed.
6
rolled up piece of paper (facing to the side)
Nearly the same as No.5

Observations:
We had to get a flat piece of paper and it was nearly like normal hearing.Sounded funny because there was a little noise in the background.
.Was clear as well and there was also a little noise in the background. Was not so clear but you could hear properly, it sounded muffled Was very clear. Was nearly the same as.

Conclusion:
Through all the effort and hustle, we managed to finish our experiment. I found my hypothesis a bit right because when we changed the shape of paper and positions, the sound always changed.

Music

Music is a sound , there are different types of music . Pop,hip hop, rap, jazz and so on. Some music can trigger emotional feelings maybe because it sad or cause because it reminds you of a time in the past. Most music is created by instruments are objects the can make sound or you could make your own. There are many types of instruments guitar, drums, violin every instrument makes sound.

If your music is too loud probably make you deaf because it would affect your eardrum, and you can never get your hearing back. Music is played in many countries maybe every country in the world. It would be pretty boring without music what would you listen to just somebody talking gossip but deaf people cant hear music not even a sound

My favourite artist! It would be tricky because there are lots of fantastic artists so im gonna go with Will.i.am. This man is very talented he lives a life of fame and he came to our school. He told us about his life like how he lived in poverty where he lived in L.A. But now he’s rich he owns his own company and factory. He even creates his own hat’s. Thats why he’s my favourite and also he has awesome songs and he was also featured in the black eyed peas.

Just remember don’t turn your music up too loud it will damage your ears and you won’t get your hearing back. Music is good I love it, it’s awesome! Tell me what do you think what it will be like without music?

Immersion Assembly Term 2

Immersion Assembly

This morning we had a great intro on what our learning is about this term. First Mr Burt started of with a challenge how much baloons could hold up a new york taxi, it's only the size of a android phone. the umout we thought would hold it up was three but no it wasn't it didn't take five nour ten it took sixteen baloons. The's baloons were filled with heleum to make it float so really we broke a mith because the house of the movie up we recon the baloons used to hold it up you would of needed five times as much.

The first team to come out and show us their performence or movie was team one the movie that they did was like equipment or animals it showed eletric fences wires ditches. Stuff that keep the animals safe and us so we dont get atacked.Term two was about flight lift off movment it the air. Term three it was manly about colour and speed Mrs Barks set a challenge for Mr Jacobson if he could run one million meters in two seconds was inpossible for him. He failed twice that how fast light was.

My favourite was term four the one was pretty funny it showed a video of a ship and how it floats it shows airpresure and the sea a paper clip could make the water rise by a tiny bitany thing can make the water rise because you displacing the water your pushing it away.My teacher was in term five we are all learning about sound ,listening songs, music. hearing to what thing make sound like guitars. That was the end of our immersion assembly

Swim-a-rama and Movies in the Park

The best thing just happened at the pools (Swim-a-rama) do you know what it was?

I will tell you, Me, Frankie, Logan ,Lorenzo (Kelly-Brown) and Isaiah got to the pool there was this man who shouts us almost every Sunday. We Had some hot chips the man bought it for us. Even slide passes, The outside pool is being closed so thats a pity, the reason why is because its winter the pool gets colder and that goes for the diving board as well. This pool is located in Panmure.

The only things that were open were the hydro-slide and the inside pool. The hydro-slide was mainly what I was interested about it’s is a tough walk to the top but a fun slide down. But there are a few rules wait till the person in front goes past the blue line, no chains, one at a time and feet first. We ignored that we chained (more than 2)  all the way like twenty times when we get to the bottom it’s like we caused a tsunami. But sometime we or you do a chain you can lose your band. The lifeguard will cut your band off and then you will just have to swim.

We love the inside pool. It’s warm for the little kids and deep for the adults I always got to the deep part. There are four lanes one to play in and the other for swimmers or kids that go swimming practice When we get there we just relax and walk in circles. You are not aloud to bomb in there only on the diving board but to bad it’s closed .

Theres is even a playground outside the kids can have toughs a fun theres a water gun well most of the things there involves water. An theres a inside pool for the little kids its shallow as it’s up to your needs your not aloud to have wrestling in there because the last time I did that I got kicked and almost banned from their If you get banned you are not allowed back there for like an year. And if your band broke you could just take it to the reception and they will give you another one and thats the last one you will get.

Sport at Tamaki College

At Pt England School class 2, class 4, and class 5 goes down the road to Tamaki College for sports every Friday.  It is held behind the local rec center on the field. The activities that were set up for us was rope jump, Amazing Race, trust challenges, plus many more.

At Tamaki college there is mostly Polynesian and Maoris. Tamaki College is in Glen Innes. I think they do these activities for some people to get fit and lose weight. I think I lost weight from doing all these activities within 2 weeks.

When we got there we had to get into 7 groups with 10 people per group. I was with Jabez, Levi, Neo and many more people. Our group was the best at doing the activities and we were dangerous.

Our tutors are who we have to respect because they give us leadership to show us our activity and how to do it. We listen to what they say and we give them our full attention like how we give it to our teacher. They participate with us so we would have to do the same.

We have some hard activities and some easy one but most of them involve teamwork and participation so we can co-operate with our group. Give it a try if you don’t want to have a turn at doing the activity.

At the end when its time to go sometimes we get a treat some chocolate lollies. I saw the other team. Far! They had like five bars of chocolate to share between them. That’s a lot that must be like ten pieces a kid. But thats alright two pieces were alright.
